Hi, I’m Charl! I am a member of the Strong Girl Society community, a fitness and food content creator and a HUGE advocate for living a balanced, healthy and fun life! My love for the gym began when lockdown ended, I wanted nothing more than to feel strong and to become the best version of myself. This passion and drive continued throughout my time at university, spending an hour in the gym, in my own little world, motivated me for the rest of the day and kept me aligned with my goals.

About me

My fitness journey has not always been easy, I developed an eating disorder in my late teenage years as I followed all of the wrong advice; and I never truly educated myself on how to reach my goals in a healthy and sustainable way. When I started recovery, after finding people such as Holly, who made me believe recovery was possible, I wanted nothing more than to ensure other people did not do the same thing I did. I wanted to educate, empower and positively influence people on their fitness journey.

When and why I started my Instagram

And that is why I created my instagram! My aim is to make my instagram page a safe place for everyone! I post the content that I wish I saw when I was struggling with my mental health and an eating disorder, I post about things that I hope inspire others. My main priority with my page is to create content that helps others, to empower people to become the best version of themselves.

I post a lot of food videos and ‘what I eat in a day’ reels, this is because I want to show that you can still eat all of your favourite foods and not restrict any food groups but still reach your fitness goals! I post about my mental health and all of the different ways I try and improve it with the intention that someone may see something they like which can then help their mental health too. I have come so far in my journey, my aim now is to help others on theirs.

Top Training Tips

My top training tip is ensuring you prioritise rest and recovery. Your muscles recover and grow in the periods where you are not training. It is so important to have rest days for optimal muscle growth, recovery and to minimise the risk of injury.

Another top training tip is implementing progressive overload into your workouts! If you are looking to get stronger in the gym or want to simply challenge yourself then progressive overload is key!

My gym bag essentials:

  • Lifting straps (a workout without these is never fun)
  • A gym padlock
  • Pre-workout (absolute essential)
  • A snack (normally some form of protein bar, I always keep snacks in my bag though – I’m a hungry gal
  • A small makeup bag (I always carry concealer, some mascara and Carmex)
  • My headphones of course!!!
  • Tampons – you never know when Mother Nature wants to make an appearance!
  • A spare pair of gym shorts
  • Deodorant!
  • Body moisturiser (I love having super soft, shiny skin!)
  • Spare bobble and hair clips (nothing worse than one breaks in the gym!)
  • Plasters! Trust me on this one.

Favourite things to do on a rest day:

I love a rest day. It is a day that I make all about me. I take some time in the day to perform my skincare routine, have a relaxing bath and write in my journal. I like to think that a rest day not only helps muscle recovery, but it also helps your mind relax and recover, ready for a new day.

What does my average day look like?

Now I have graduated university, I am working full time. I work as a Digital Marketing Executive and I love it! However, that means I need to organise my time so I can do everything that makes me feel good around my work hours.
I typically wake up at 6am, i have my morning coffee and do my journalling. After that, around 6:30am, I have some yummy breakfast (usually a recipe taken from the Strong Girl Society Recipe Guide) and then get ready and head to the gym!
I get back at 8:30am, have a quick shower and get ready to log onto work for 9am until 5pm.
After work, I go for a little hot girl walk (because having a desk job can sometimes drive you crazy, I love being outdoors). Once I get back I have a relaxing bath, make some delicious food for dinner and enjoy the rest of my evening!
